Common Questions

What certification do I need?
The recommended qualification is PADI Advanced Open Water or equivalent, with a minimum of 30 logged dives (mandatory) and experience in currents and using a reef hook. Open Water divers can be welcomed on board, but our crew may advise against participation in some dives if experience is insufficient for the conditions.
What is a reef hook and is one provided?
A reef hook is a metal hook on a short line that you clip to a rocky outcrop, allowing you to hold position against the current. Many of the channels in Palau have strong currents and a reef hook is essential. Reef hooks and SMBs are not available to rent on board, so please bring your own or purchase them on board.
What's the water temperature?
Palau has consistent 28-30C water year-round. A 3mm wetsuit is usually enough. No cold thermoclines to worry about.
Are there state permits and on-board taxes?
Yes. Palau Islands State Permits and Taxes are added to your invoice for payment on board, with the amount depending on trip duration and areas covered. Rock Islands and Peleliu State permits are valid for 5 days each, so two permits are required on 7 or 10 night itineraries. A 10 percent Palau Goods and Services Tax applies to relevant on-board payments, plus a fuel surcharge.
