The Alor Archipelago

Overview

Abundant Marine life
Abundant marine life
Pristine Corals
Pristine reefs
Great Visibility
Suitable for all divers
Manta rays
Macro critters
Shark sightings

The Alor Archipelago is renowned for dramatic underwater landscapes and exceptional biodiversity. Black volcanic sand slopes reveal rare and unusual macro life, while nutrient-rich currents running through the Pantar Strait support thriving coral reefs, steep walls and submerged pinnacles where sharks, turtles and rays are frequently encountered. West of Alor, the lesser-visited Solor Archipelago introduces a different character to the journey. Here, productive channels, seamounts and exposed reefs attract schooling fish and pelagic species, while sheltered sites reveal colourful coral growth and thriving reef communities. The contrast between Solor’s current-swept passages and Alor’s volcanic terrain creates a richly varied liveaboard itinerary that showcases the full spectrum of diving in this remote corner of East Nusa Tenggara.

Maps & Itinerary

The Solor and Alor archipelagos lie within the Lesser Sunda Islands of East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia – a vast island chain stretching eastwards from Bali and Lombok through Komodo and Flores to Alor and Timor.

The Solor Archipelago comprises three principal islands, namely Solor, Adonara and Lembata, located off the eastern end of Flores. Further east, the Alor Archipelago is centred around the larger islands of Pantar and Alor, together with numerous smaller offshore islets and reefs.

This 10-night liveaboard itinerary traces a dramatic route from Maumere to Kalabahi, linking the Flores Sea with the Savu Sea via the nutrient-rich channels between Lembata, Pantar and Alor. The journey offers exceptional diversity, from world-class muck diving and rugged volcanic slopes to vibrant reefs, walls, caves and offshore pinnacles. Around 70 km north of Lembata lies Komba Island, also known as Gunung Batu Tara, an active volcano whose steep underwater topography and exposed position create exciting conditions and strong pelagic potential. Seasonal conditions around Alor may even bring the possibility of mola mola (ocean sunfish), and on rare occasions, passing orcas.

On a typical day, we offer up to 4 day dives; 3 day dives and a fourth sunset or night dive, where possible. The diving day is scheduled as follows:

  • Light Breakfast followed by a briefing and Dive 1
  • Full Breakfast, relaxation period, briefing and Dive 2
  • Lunch, relaxation period, briefing and Dive 3
  • Snack relaxation period, briefing and Dive 4, where possible
  • Dinner

The itinerary outlined above is an example only and may be subject to change depending on local regulations, guests’ experience, flight schedules*, weather and logistics and is at the Captain’s discretion. Adverse weather and sea conditions can affect the Alor Archipelago itinerary and play a part in determining which dive sites are included on each trip.

Customer Reviews

Some of the great things our customers have said about our liveaboard in Indonesia

beautiful soft corals, delightful professional crew

Indo Master, Nov 2024, Raja Ampat, Halmahera & Lembeh
safety is a priority with this company and it shows. great embarkation briefings, fire precautions, dive briefings, switched on dive guides and so on. unusual for many liveaboards the mattress and pillows were really comfortable so no issues with good sleep after a busy day diving. vegetarian food was easily accommodated, ample and delicious. the crew are a highly professional, coordinated, harmonious team - most of them have worked together for a long time and it shows in the safe, slick efficiency of their operation
Great experience, can definitely recommend

Indo Master, Dec 2024, Raja Ampat
Great trip. The crew was amazing. Friendly, helpful and social. There was always good food, nice drinks and if you wanted or needed something special (because of allergies for example) you would always get a special meal for your needs instead of missing out. The cabins are very cozy and get cleaned every day. The bathroom and shower is huge, modern and clean. But what I enjoyed the most was definitely the sun deck and the huge hang-out-areas with a lot of space and cozy seats. Would definitely recommend and do again!!! Will miss the friendly and cozy atmosphere

We would like to thank everyone for making this trip amazing. The dive guides Amanda, Oksel, Victor and Fingky were doing EVERYTHING for us. We were finding our wetsuits dry and folded in front of our tanks!!! The cabin and F&B crew were making us find our room impeccable and the food ready as we showed up in the saloon. G, the cruise director, was not only very knowledgeable and helpful, but also an AMAZING BAKER, making delightful loaves of fresh bread every day. All the rest of the crew, from the tender drivers, to the cooks, deserve a mention for all the hard work they did, always sharing the brightest smiles. The room was just stunning, with a big private balcony and the comfiest bed we slept in. And what about the diving!?!?! Huge corals, mantas and all the macro you can ask for! Currents, shotguns, volcanic floors. Everything was there to blow your mind! Thanks again for a holiday to remember!
A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience on IndoMaster
A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience on IndoMaster
Indo Master, Aug 2025, Komodo
From the moment I stepped aboard IndoMaster, I knew I was about to embark on something extraordinary — but the reality far surpassed anything I could have imagined. The staff deserve every word of praise possible. Their attention to detail was nothing short of impeccable. Every little request was met with genuine warmth, professionalism, and an uncanny ability to anticipate what we needed before we even asked. Whether it was the thoughtful touches in the cabins, the seamless organization of daily excursions, or the way they made every meal feel like a fine-dining experience, their care elevated the entire journey into something magical. The trip itself was absolutely phenomenal. Each day unfolded like a dream — stunning landscapes, pristine waters, and adventures that left me in awe. Yet, what struck me most was how effortless everything felt. All I had to do was immerse myself in the experience; IndoMaster took care of the rest with such precision that it felt almost choreographed. If you’re considering this trip, don’t hesitate — just go. IndoMaster is not just a voyage; it’s a memory etched into your soul. 🌊

We had such an incredible trip! I couldn’t imagine a better crew of people to spend 13 days with — this company has the most incredible employees. The diving is spectacular, and the guides do an amazing job leading their groups. There is also a hugely appreciated emphasis on ocean conservation. The cruise director did a particularly beautiful job educating us about the species we were seeing and what actions we can take to protect them, as these remarkable species/places are rapidly disappearing. I leave this trip feeling completely in awe of the ocean, and devastated to leave such a beautiful place and such amazing people. What a gift to experience this!
Amazing trip on a great boat with a brilliant crew
Amazing trip on a great boat with a brilliant crew
Indo Master, Dec 2025, Raja Ampat
Really great experience. The crew was great, the diving amazing (everything from Mantas and Wobbegongs to small stuff such as pygmy seahorses). The fourth dive varied between sunset and night dive which really worked well. The crew looked after us amazingly. The food was brilliant (fresh bread every day) and catered for everyone’s dietary needs. The cabin was a lot more spacious than on other liveaboards that we have been on before. The team values sustainability and tries to do their bit from cutting food waste to their own sustainable cleaning products. Would highly recommend the trip!

We had an incredible stay on the Indo Master Raja Ampat. The crew was absolutely outstanding — always smiling, attentive, and genuinely caring about every detail. The diving itself was breathtaking, with beautiful reefs and unforgettable marine life. Oks, our dive guide, was absolutely amazing. Victor our cruise director was the best. Always keeping things fun and safe, and always smiling! We stayed in one of the rooms with balcony, and it was very comfortable, and clean. The food was delicious too!

The boat was very comfortable, diving was world-class but what really differentiated this experience was the crew. They were extremely professional and safety-conscious but also friendly and communicative. We had a lovely experience and would recommend it to anyone without hesitation.

The crew were excellent, attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable of the dive sites, etc. Lots of operators say they have safety as a priority. I believe these guys. From emergency breathing apparatus for each person in the cabin, and having you perform a safety drill when you had to put on your lifejackets at the start of the trip. First time i have had this happen, and personally, i think it is important. The boat is modelled on a traditional design, but has enough space for up to 20 passengers. Individual beds and not bunk beds, decent showers and toilets. Food was good, a lot of vegetarian offers as well as conventional, and variety. I hired a full set of diving equipment, and the quality was good. The diving itself offered a lot of variety, and often depends on luck of the draw, but there were lots of Wobbegongs, Mantas, sharks, and pygmy seahorses.
