Abundant marine life
Suitable for all divers
Alor is well known for its black, volcanic sand muck diving and macro biodiversity, while the Pantar Strait boasts healthy, colourful coral reefs, pinnacles and walls with sharks, turtles and rays as well as the possibility of a chance encounter with sunfish (aka mola mola) or even spotting orcas (killer whales). Maumere located on the north coast of Flores is an area that is famous for its diversity and is best known for its muck dives, walls and drop-offs. Maumere once held the title of most diverse spot on earth - a title currently held by Raja Ampat. It's diversity has also made Maumere a popular area of study for marine scientists over the years.
Maps & Itinerary
The Alor Archipelago is part of East Nusa Tenggara, a region that comprises multiple islands and lies 1,000 kilometres east of Bali and just north of Timor.
The 10 night liveaboard scuba diving itinerary takes you on a journey through the Flores Sea between Kalabahi and Maumere incorporating a variety of dive sites along the way including world famous muck sites and diverse reefs, caves and walls of the Pantar Strait, and the Alor Strait between Lembata and Flores Islands. Roughly 50km north of Lembata is Komba Island, also known as Batu Tara which is a small, active volcano with stunning underwater topography.
On a typical day we offer up to 4 day dives; 3 day dives and a fourth sunset or night dive, exploring the varied sites along the Alor Archipelago through the Suva and Flores Seas. The diving day is scheduled as follows:
- Light Breakfast followed by a briefing and Dive 1
- Full Breakfast, relaxation period, briefing and Dive 2
- Lunch, relaxation period, briefing and Dive 3
- Snack relaxation period, briefing and Dive 4, where possible
The itinerary outlined above is an example only and may be subject to change depending on local regulations, guests’ experience, flight schedules*, weather and logistics and is at the Captain’s discretion. Adverse weather and sea conditions can affect the Alor Archipelago itinerary and play a part in determining which dive sites are included on each trip.
*Please be advised that domestic flights in Indonesia are often subject to delays, schedule changes and cancellations which can result in missed connections and / or late embarkation.
