This short 3 day / 2 night trip explores the Phi Phi Island group, which lies in Phang-Nga bay about 45km east of Phuket. Two main islands make up Phi Phi with the largest island of Phi Phi Don being a few kilometres north of Phi Phi Lae. These remarkable islands are surrounded by breathtaking limestone cliffs rising vertically into the sky, where tropical vegetation takes over at the crest. There are many beautiful beaches, coves and bays which make for dramatic scenery to enjoy surface intervals during your liveaboard vacation in Thailand.

Maps & Itinerary

There are many, many dive sites around the Phi Phi island group, many consisting of wall dives, the limestone dropping to depth ranges between 10m and 25m. The walls can have gorgonian fans, soft corals and coral bushes and interesting rock formations and swim throughs.

At the base of these walls there are often hard coral gardens to explore. You can expect a great amount of fish life, including lionfish, wrasse, moorish idols, angelfish, rays, trevallies. Also keep an eye out for leopard sharks sleeping on the sandy bottoms or blacktip reef sharks cruising the reefs.

Turtles can also quite commonly be seen here. Lastly do check the fans and bushes for tigertail seahorses and harlequin ghost pipefish.

Your cruise director will schedule up to four dives per day; 3 day dives and a night. This is a total of 10 dives over 3 days. The diving day is scheduled as follows:

  • Light Breakfast followed by a briefing and Dive 1
  • Full Breakfast, relaxation period, briefing and Dive 2
  • Lunch, relaxation period, briefing and Dive 3
  • Snack relaxation period, briefing and Dive 4, where possible
  • Dinner

For your final day aboard we schedule two morning dives and a single dive after lunch to allow plenty of time for off gassing before disembarkation. The cruise director is happy to listen to requests from guests to visit or remain at certain sites, providing it is possible and the schedule allows it.

The entire experience aboard the Junk is absolutely wonderful. Diving groups are kept small so that the divemasters can focus on everyone's enjoyment. They modified our trip in August so that we had 3 days of excellent dives despite some choppy waves, The crew of the Junk is very attentive to our dive equipment and prepared delicious meals every day.

Johnathan and crew made the best of a stormy week and rough seas. Customer service on the boat was first class and meals were for royalty. Even though the number of available dive sites were limited by the weather, we still saw most of the marine life on the ID slate. Great trip! Front office was tough to get a hold of and their database was malfunctioning.
