Who are Manta Trust

Established in 2011, Manta Trust is a UK-registered charity that leads global research and conservation initiatives for manta and devil rays. The dedicated team consists of a diverse group of researchers, scientists, conservationists, educators, and media professionals, collaborating to share knowledge and expertise while promoting conservation efforts.

Research

The goal of Manta Trust is to support governments, NGOs, and conservationists in making informed, effective marine management decisions through rigorous, long-term scientific research that provides a strong foundation for action.

Education

Over the past 13 years, Manta Trust has established itself as a global leader in manta and devil ray conservation. By collaborating with over 200 universities and research institutions, the organisation has contributed to more than 100 academic publications, advancing our understanding of these majestic creatures. Their educational outreach has reached over 8,000 students worldwide, through both online and in-person marine biology lessons.

Securing worldwide protection

Manta Trust has been instrumental in securing national protection for manta rays in critical fishing regions and has played a key role in over 10 major international legislative victories, ensuring greater protection for manta and devil rays.

Their groundbreaking work includes publishing the world’s first comprehensive book on manta rays, as well as a global guide to manta and devil rays, further cementing their position as thought leaders in the field of marine conservation.
