Maps & Itinerary
This 10 night Southern Visayas, Leyte, and Malapascua LAMAVE liveaboard adventure allows up to 33 dives (including night dives) and takes you to some of the most beautiful regions of the Philippines, allowing you to experience some of the best diving in all of south east Asia.
A researcher from the Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute Philippines (LAMAVE), will join us on board Philippine Siren for this special trip. The itinerary visits several of LAMAVE’s research and conservation field sites including Sogod Bay, where the team has been studying whale sharks with local stakeholders since 2013 and Balicasag Island, a key foraging area for marine turtles. You will also be invited to assist with their research to deploy, retrieve, and service their acoustic receivers at sites along the itinerary route including Cabilao and Malapascua.
Throughout the trip, your observations and pictures enable LAMAVE to do photo identification of green and hawksbill turtles, mantas, and whale sharks as and where they are encountered. There will be presentations explaining LAMAVE’s research into the various species, how the collected data is used and interpreted, why it is important, and how it can lead to conservation impact.
On a typical day we offer up to 4 dives; 3 day dives and a fourth sunset or night dive. The diving day is usually scheduled as follows:
- Light Breakfast followed by a briefing and Dive 1
- Full Breakfast, relaxation period, briefing and Dive 2
- Lunch, relaxation period, briefing and Dive 3
- Snack relaxation period, briefing and Dive 4, where possible
- Dinner
